Description:Workmen at Hollington Quarry. The man in the bowler hat at the front right is John Stevenson, standing with his wife Mary, nee Deakin, holding their daughter Margaret Daisy. The little boy in the wide brimmed hat on the platform of the steam crane and holding a lever is their son Austin. John Stevenson (1844-1916). He was responsible for re-opening Hollington Quarry after a long period of redundancy. Stone from Hollington Quarry was used in the building of Coventry Cathedral. One of their sons, also called John, set up Stevensons Bus Company whose yellow liveried buses were a familiar sight on the roads between Uttoxeter and Stafford, Burton, Rugeley and Lichfield in the 1980s.
