Description:Iron toaster with a stand at the front and long handle. The oatcake holder is semi-circular and can be moved backwards and forwards for heating the contents. This blacksmith-made example was purchased at a farm sale at Caverswall Farm, Loxley, near Uttoxeter.
Thomas Gallimoretook up the tenancy of Caverswall Farm as a tenant in 1905, and purchased the farm at the 1918 sale of the Loxley estate. Thomas was primarily a blacksmith and farmer in small way at Wootton, north Staffordshire where his ancestors had been blacksmiths for generations. It is likely, therefore that Thomas Gallimore himself, his blacksmith father, Samuel Gallimore or earlier generations of Gallimore made this oatcake holder.
