Description:The Wodehouse has a 14th century timber-framed core, but its present Jacobean appearance is due to 19th century alterations.

The house was acquired in the early 18th century by Sir Samuel Hillier. He and his son refitted much of the interior of the house, and laid out the 18 acre garden in 1740. In 1786 the house was left to Rev. Thomas Shaw.

G.F. Bodley restored the house in 1872-3. Further alterations were carried out in an arts and crafts style by C.R. Ashbee in 1895-7, including the chapel.
