Description:View of the ford at Downs Banks, Stone. In the eighteenth century Bluebarn Farm on Downs Bank grew hops for Joule's Brewery.

In 1946 Joule's purchased a the land from Viscount Sidmouth. It was presented to the National Trust on 22 July 1950 'as a thank offering for victory in the 1939 - 45 War and as a memorial to those who died there'.

Endowed by public subscription, Downs Banks was then officially handed over to the National Trust.
