Description:Josiah Wedgwood (1730-1795), pottery manufacturer, was born in Burslem into a family with a long tradition as potters. In 1759 he set up his own pottery in Burslem and was soon successful enough to build a new factory at Etruria in 1768. Wedgwood was a great innovator and introduced Queen's ware (a type of fine earthenware), basalt and jasperware. After his death his descendants carried on the family business.
