Description:Rev. Thomas Gisbourne (1758-1846) of Yoxall was the son of John Gisbourne of Yoxall lodge, which he inherited on his father's death. He became curate of Barton under Needwood in 1783. Gisbourne was a member of the Clapham Sect, was a close friend of William Wilberforce (who stayed with him at Yoxall Lodge) and fought for the abiolition of the slave trade. He also wrote poetry and hymns and was a member of the Derby Philosophical Society.
