Description:Joseph Addison (1672-1719), essayist, poet and politician. He was born in Wiltshire, but shortly after his birth his father was appointeed Dean of Lichfield and the family moved to the Cathedral Close. He was later member of Parliament for Lostwithiel and then Malmesbury, and was Chief Secretary for Ireland 1708-1710 and 1714-1715. he contributed to the 'Tatler' from 1709, and founded the 'Spectator' in 1711.
