Description:Henry William Paget, 1st Marquis of Anglesey, was born in 1768 and died in 1854. The Paget family home was Beaudesert, which stood on the south-eastern edge of Cannock Chase.
He fought in Flanders, Holland, Portugal and Spain during the Napoleonic Wars. By 1815 he was in command of the British cavalry and horse artillery under Wellington, including at the Battle of Waterloo, where he lost a leg. He was also a Member of Parliament between 1780 and 1810, and was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Ireland 1828-1829 and 1830-1833. He was made a Field Marshal in 1846.
