Description:Lithograph print. A caricature of Alfred Frederick Bird (1849-1922) by 'Spy', with caption 'A Midland Imperialist' . Appeared in 'Vanity Fair' 13th September 1908. He was a Birmingham based businessman, who succeeded his father as proprietor of Alfred Bird & Sons, makers of Bird's Custard and baking powder. He intorduced new products such as jelly powder and cubes and blancmange. He was also Member of Parliament for Wolverhampton West 1910-1922. The Bird's factory in Digbeth, Birmingham is The Custard Factory, a centre providing space to artists.
