Description:William Howard, Viscount Stafford (1614-1680) was the son of Thomas Howard, earl of Arundel. He married Mary Stafford (1619-1693/4), sister of the 5th Baron Stafford in 1637. They were created Baron and Baroness Stafford on the death of the 5th Baron in 1640. He was created Viscount Stafford in the same year. As a catholic he was found guilty of treason as part of the alleged Popish Plot of 1678, and was beheaded on Tower Hill, London in 1680.

Mezzotint by Edward Scriven after a drawing by William Derby, which in turn was a copy of a painting by Anthony Vandyke. Published 25th March 1825.
