Description:George Granville Leveson-Gower, 2nd Duke of Sutherland (1786-1861) of Trentham Hall. He was the son of the 2nd Earl Gower, Marquess of Stafford and 1st Duke of Sutherland (1758-1833). He was Whig member of Parliament for Newcastle under Lyme 1812-1815 and M.P. for Staffordshire 1815-1820. He was High Steward of Stafford 1833. He married Lady Harriet Elizabeth Georgina Howard (1806-1868), daughter of the 6th Earl of Carlisle in 1823. He died 28th February 1861 at Trentham Hall, where he was buried. Mezzotint by S.W. Reynolds and W. Walker after a painting by Sir Thomas Lawrence.
