Description:Alan Gardner (1742-1809), Admiral of the Blue, was born in Uttoxeter. He was created Baronet of Uttoxeter in 1794 for his services at sea under Admiral Lord Howe. In 1800 he was created Baron Gardner of Uttoxeter, an Irish peerage. In 1806 this became a peerage of the United Kingdom. He married Susannah (1749-1823), widow of Samuel Hyde, in Jamaica in 1769.
