Description:John Flaxman (1755-1826), sculptor and draughtsman. Born in York. At the age of 19 he was employed by Josiah Wedgwood as a modeller in basalte and jasper ware. In later life he created the monument to Matthew Boulton (died 1809) in St. Mary's Church, Handsworth.
