Description:Oil painting. Head and shoulders portrait of Sir Walter Aston of Tixall (1530-1589), Knighted on 18 July 1860. He was Knight of the Shire for Staffordshire in the Parliament of March 1553, Sheriff of Staffordshire in 1570 and 1580, and Justice of the Peace in 1574-1575 and 1577-1589. The inscription 'A. DNI 1584 AETATIS SUA.55' indicates that the portrait was painted in 1584 and that it shows Sir Walter in his 55th year.
