Description:A hand coloured engraved map of Staffordshire surveyed by Thomas Badeslade and published and engraved by William H. Toms. It was published in 'Chorographia Britanniae', 1741. The scale is about 10 miles to one inch. In the left margin are details of the main towns of the County, with details of fairs, markets and the numbers of members each place sends to Parliament. Badeslade was a surveyor who did a lot of work upon the Fen maps of the period. This is a 1st edition of the map published in 'Chorographia Britannia' and has far fewer towns and villages than the usual edition.
