Description:This view is from the town side of the bridge, looking towards Littleworth. The road officially opened on 15 December 1914. A plaque on the right hand pillar commemorates the event.
Plumblines are hanging from the centre of the bridge above the beams that reach out from the river bank. The engineer would measure the gap between the bottom of each plumbline to the beam with and without the load on the bridge and compare the results with the calculations supplied by the bridge designer. The traction engines making up the test load would be much less than that expected to break the bridge.
