Description:Portrait, oil on canvas, of John Joule, wearing a dark jacket with white cravat and brass buttons. Son of Francis and Mary Joule, born at Youlgreave, Derbyshire on 4 Jan 1783. Married Mary Smith of Stafford, first wife, on 25 Apr 1803. Died Meaford Old Hall, Meaford, near Stone on 2 May 1858. John Joule took over his father's brewing business in Stone in 1813, when it was renamed John Joule & Sons. Gilt wood frame. Artist: T. Arrowsmith (1772-c.1829).
