Description:Portrait of Francis Randle Twemlow Esq. of Peatswood, Staffordshire, near Market Drayton. Balding gentleman seated at table with sketch of building and dividers. Wearing buttoned spats, collar and tie, tweed suit with knee-breeches. Terrier seated in foreground by chair. Artist: John Frederick Harrison Dutton (fl. 1890-1918), of Delamere Street, Chester. Gold painted frame with ornate leaf design, cracked.

Francis Randle Twemlow, B.A.; F.S.A.; J.P.; D.S.O. (in the Boer war) and later Colonel in the 4th North Staffordshire Regiment. He was born in 1853, the son of the Vicar of Forton, and was a barrister and Chairman of the Staffordshire Quarter Sessions. He married Evelyn Harriet Duckworth in 1878, but she died aged 22 in 1880. Two years later he married again, this time to Annie Mary Gertrude Lewis, the daughter of Rev Edward Lewis. They had a daughter Evelyn, born 1894. He died at Peatswood in 1927.
