Description:On the right can be seen the Jubilee Fountain, erected on the Market Square in 1887 to mark Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee.

In 1927 the Borough Council turned the square into a car park; the Jubilee Fountain was broken up in 1934 to provide extra space for cars.

In the background is Brookfield and Windows department store, first opened in 1743 by George Boulton, on the corner of Market Square and Greengate Street. In the 1880s the store was demolished and replaced by a new building.

Brookfield's closed in 1909 and the building is now the HSBC Bank.

Photograph donated by Stafford Historical and Civic Society, who retain copyright ownership.
