Description:Robert Arme behind the counter of his shop, shortly before his retirement in 1981.

The Village Store had been a shop since at least 1754, when Ralph Adams purchased it for £40. It was run by the Adams family until 1914, when Ernest Arme took it over. Ernest and his son Robert ran it as a grocers and general stores, and also as the village petrol station. The shop closed on Robert Arme's retirement.
