Description:Frank Riley was born at Hope House in 1892. he served his apprenticeship with Ashbourne butcher Sam Parkin. He set up business at Hope Marsh as the village butcher before the First World war. His business was run from a variety of places in Alstonefield, and also worked as the district pig killer. He died in 1959, aged 67.

He is pictured here hand-milking a dairy shorthorn cow at Hope Marsh.
