Description:Heighley Castle was the home of the Audley family in Plantagenet times. The remains are those of a motte and bailey castle built in the 12th century, and extended in the 13th century. It was destroyed by Cromwell in 1644. Very little is visible today: two sections of red sandstone wall, the dry rock cut moat, the foundations of four drum towers and a drawbridge remain.
