Description:The Calton war memorial commemorates those who gave their lives during the First World War. It is set into the wall of the Village Hall, the former Village School.

In a special ceremony, on 28 June 2003, the name of Sergeant Eric William Austin was added to the memorialmemorial to commemorate his service to his country during the Second World War.

Flight Sergeant Eric William Austin of Pales Corner Cottage, Calton joined the Royal Air Force in 1939 and became a wireless operator with 355 Squadron and was promoted to Sergeant. He was stationed in India during the war. Whilst flying in a Liberator over the Bay of Bengal in 1944 the aircraft ditched and, although searches were carried out, no trace was ever found of the aircraft or its crew.
