Description:Earthenware painted teapot, jug and saucers. Height of teapot 140mm. Decorating a pot with small painted motifs, leaving most of the vessel white, was called 'sprig painting'. This method reduced the amount of paint needed, the time taken and the skill of the decorator. Child labour was often used for this decoration. All of these tea wares are stamped WOOD on their base. The teapot, jug and saucers were excavated at Burslem Market Place in 1998.
