Description:The demolition of buildings on this site, to make way for the new shopping area around Princes Street, allowed this view to be taken. On the left is the minister's house.
John Wesley first preached in Stafford in 1783. For many years the Wesleyans in Stafford used premises in St. Chad's Place as their meeting house, until they built a new chapel on Chapel Street in 1811. This building was soon demolished because of structural defects.
A new larger chapel, seen here, was erected on the same site in 1863. A minister's house was built next door. A Sunday school opened in Rowley Street in 1886.
The Wesleyan Chapel closed in the 1980s and today only the tower remains.
