Description:This view of Foregate, looking towards Greyfriars, is virtually unrecognisable today. The photograph is taken from just beyond the junction with St. Patrick's Street, and the cobbled area and lamppost on the left mark the entrance to Foregate Square.

The large house on the left, with the bay windows, belonged to William Eley, a shoe manufacturer.

Behind the trees on the right are the engineering works of W.H. Dorman whose factory was here before the move to Tixall Road in 1939.
