Description:Cannock Chase was originally a hunting ground, covered by a great oak forest. At this time the Chase was more extensive, but centuries of industry and land enclosure has left only a small remnant.

Over two thousand acres were given by the former Earl of Lichfield for recreation, and today the Chase has been declared an area for special protection of the landscape under the National Parks Act.
