Description:The Grand Junction railway line opened in July 1837. Within the next twelve years lines had opened from Stafford to Wellington and, via Lichfield to Rugby. The suburb of Castletown, en route to Doxey, was built to accommodate the railway workers. The first station was built in 1837, but the makeshift building was replaced in the early 1840s. The building pictured was the third station, constructed in 1862.

On the right is the Station Hotel, originally built as the North Western on Victoria Road in 1866, to provide accommodation for rail travellers.

The building was demolished in May 1972 and a motor salesroom was built in its place.
