Description:Interior of Hoar Cross Church. These two carved white marble effigies are Hugo Francis Meynell Ingram (d. 1871) and his wife Emily Meynell Ingram (d. 1904), who commissioned the church in memory of her husband.
The church was built between 1872-1876 in the Decorated style. The architect, G.F. Bodley, was also responsible for most of the furnishings including the reredoses, screens, front cover and marble flooring.
The church was paid for by the wife of Hugo Francis Meynell Ingram of Hoar Cross Hall and Temple Newsam, and was built to commemorate him, following his death in 1871.
