Description:Pottery factory interior taken at Foley China Works, Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent. This black and white print is mounted inside a Christmas card, which is inscribed ‘Greetings of the Season and good wishes for the year to come, Foley China Works, Fenton, Staffs, England 1850- 1950.’ The photograph depicts ‘Tom Pedley – head mouldmaker (50 years in the industry).’

A great deal of pottery was (and still is) cast or pressed from moulds. From one mould multiple pieces of ware of the exact same shape and size could be made. This meant that mouldmakers possessed a highly valued skill.

Taken from the Gladstone Pottery Museum Photographic Collection.

This photograph is part of the collections at Stoke-on-Trent Museums.
