Description:A group of school boys with their teacher, Miss Layng, at her private School at 33 Newport Road, Stafford.
Standing in the front row 2nd from the left in a striped shirt is Sydney Horne who became well known as a local historian. Fifth from left is his brother, C.C. Horne.

The school was in existance between about 1890 and 1896. Miss Layng was probably Lucy Melissa Layng, sister of the Headmaster of Stafford Grammar School, A.E.F. Layng.
