Description:View looking across Mill Street and down Church Lane. Framed between the buildings of Church, or Bier Lane, is the tower of St. Mary's Church.

Water Street was much narrower in this period than it is today. The road widening carried out, so that it could be used as a bus route, saw the demolition of the old Horse and Jockey public house on the corner of Tenterbanks, and of the Baptist Church which in its final years was used as a warehouse.

George Brewster, the builder of the town mill, had his malthouse here.
