Description:The original place of worship for the Congregationalists was at the rear of the Vine Inn on North Walls.
In 1810 several old cottages and some adjoining land on Martin Street was purchased and plans were made to build a new Zion chapel on the site. Most of the funds came from John Hubball, a local man who often worshipped with the dissenters.
In 1897 a four columned portico from Stafford General Infirmary was added to the front of the building. The plain facade was replaced by a more elaborate one, in keeping with the new portico.
