Description:By 1810 the village on the Shugborough estate had gone. Many of the villagers had moved to a new location in Great Haywood, known as The Ring, due to the circular construction of the buildings. The Ring was the work of Samuel Wyatt, who also designed the Stafford and Lichfield Lodges.
The cottages were joined, but their doors opened onto an inner courtyard; in the centre of the court was a communal oven, and each cottage had its own place for fuel. One of the buildings was used as a school for the children of the village.
The Ring was demolished in 1965.
