Description:This automatic fire extinguisher is very similar to earlier fire grenades. It consists of a conical sealed clear glass container containing clear liquid. It is held in wall mounted metal container painted red with round front and open at top and bottom. A small hammer attached to a spring at the back is held in position by a metal link.

The extinguisher is activated automatically when heat from the fire melts a soldered join between the two parts of the metal link which releases the hammer to break teh base of the container.

This item is part of the Staffordshire Fire Service collection held within the Staffordshire County Museum collection.
