Description:The blue glass fire grenade has a spherical body with straight neck and is sealed with paper and a wire hanger. Made by Harden Star Lewis and Sinclair Co. Fire grenades are an early form of fire extinguisher dating from the 1870s and were common until about 1914. They contained sodium bicarbonate and were thrown onto the fire. This item is part of the Staffordshire Fire Service collection held within the Staffordshire County Museum collection.
