Description:The Victorian National School was built in 1823, at a cost of 125 pounds, after the existing village school was criticised by the Reverend John Dunderdale for its poor facilities. Its early successive schoolmasters were Mr John Dunn, William Hall and Mary Mayer.

This photograph shows the school in its final form after its extension in 1872. The extension meant that the school boasted 81 pupils rather than the 54 pupils it could accomodate previously.

In 1928 the building reverted to church ownership, so the school was moved to its current site on Fulford Road. The building was then used for a Church Youth Club until it was demolished in the late 1950s, during the Reverend Lloyd's time.
