To celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1887, St. Mary's Church increased its peal of bells from eight to ten, the funds for the extra two bells being raised by public subscription.

The bells were re-hung in October 1921 and were put into service during a ceremony attended by the Mayor and members of the Corporation.
