Description:This picture shows children outside the hospital wards in the summer time, when they were nursed in the fresh air.
The house was given originally to Stoke-on-Trent council, but after a short period it was sold to Lancashire County Council who built a new hospital. In 1948 the hospital returned to the Stoke-on-Trent authority, but for a period the hospital took both children from Lancashire and Stoke-on-Trent. The hospital began to admit adults in the early 1960s, when the need for long stay children's beds had declined.
