Description:The three-storeyed Gothick house seen at the end of this street is Speedwell Castle. It was paid for by proceeds won from betting on 'Speedwell', a horse owned by the Duke of Bolton. Speedwell Castle is thought to have been built in around 1750 by William Rock.

Between about 1896 and 1936 the building was used as a shop, but has now been converted into flats.
