Description:In the centre of the photograph is the walk way up to the high main seam. This was very steep. The the wooden cross pieces were there to stop the miners slipping. The left of the photo is looking up to the towards the Amington drift, the tubs are full of coal from Amington on their way down to the main cages to be taken up to the surface.
Amington Colliery merged with nearby Pooley Hall and Tamworth Collieries to form North Warwick Colliery, under which name it traded until its closure in c1965. The site of Polley Hall colliery is now a country park and mining heritage center.
