Description:Ernest was a crew member of the Stafford Fire Brigade, of which his father, Captain Alfred Ernest Haywood, was the Chief Fire Officer. He was the driver of the fire engine and his younger brother Thomas was on the same crew. Ernest left the Fire Brigade in 1945 due to a training accident in which he sustained a head injury and suffered vertigo as a result.
