Description:Inside an office at the Wilts United Dairies creamery, Brookside Road, Uttoxeter. Uttoxeter Creamery opened on 29 September 1897 on a site close to the railway station. The business rapidly expanded, and at its peak the dairy was producing 13 million gallons of milk a year, which were then turned into butter, cheese and condensed milk. Over the years it has had many owners, including Wilts. United Dairies from the 1920s to the early 1960s, Unigate from the 1960s to 1981, and finally Dairy Crest and the Milk Marketing Board. The Creamery closed in January 1985 and the site has since been cleared and is now (December 2020) occupied by a Lidl supermarket and Brookside Business Park. Photographer: Gerald McCann of High Street, Uttoxeter.
