Date:August 1995

Description:In August 1995 two ex-coal miners from Hem Heath Colliery, Stoke-on-Trent stopped for the night at Loxley crossroads just off the A518, the Stafford-Uttoxeter Road.

When they were made redundant Doug Shaw and Henry Docherty used their redunancy money to buy two horse-drawn caravans so that they could spend the summer months going to horse fairs and events up and down the country. After years working down the mines they were enjoying a different life-style with no stress, no quotas, lots of fresh air and plenty of time to reflect. In the photo with the lurchers are (left to right) Doug Shaw, his son Joe Shaw, Henry Docherty and Joe's friend Luke Collier.
