Description:Lode Mill was used as a corn mill for most of its working life but originally it may have been a lead smelting mill.

In 1929 a joiners, undertakers and wheelwrights business was set up by John Hope, the miller's son.

Lode Bridge stands over the River Dove along the road locally known as "The Pinch" which leads to the A515 Ashbourne-Buxton road. The parish boundary of the neighbouring parish follows the line of "The Pinch" indicating great antiquity.
