Description:Chaff cutters were used to chop up hay to add to other feed for horses or cattle. This machine was made by E.H. Bentall & Co. Ltd. of Maldon in Essex and was sold by Oakey & Wooding of Stafford to Mr Heath of Ellenhall Grange, near Eccleshall. It is belt driven, and consists of a conveyer belt which carries the hay to rotating blades (shown here) which chop it into smaller lengths. It is pictured on display at Shugborough Park Farm, where it is powered by the water mill.
