Description:A watermill on this site is recorded in mid 16th century documents. Thomas Patten & Co. began manufacturing brass wire and pins here in 1734. From 1828 it operated as either a flint, colour or paper mill. Alton Mill was a saw mill after World War I, and its three water wheels were not scrapped until World War II.
