Description:The Bowls Club formed part of the Social & Athletic Association (Social Club) at English Electric Co., Stafford. This photograph shows one of the Bowling Greens and the club building at Stychfields, adjacent to the Lichfield Road Factory.

Above the Bowls Club roof is the large roof of the Fabrication building. This was often known as the Tank Shop due to the manufacture of armoured vehicles during World War Two and also later because of heavy fabrications produced there including transformer tanks.

Many local companies encouraged their workers to participate in sports and social activities. The English Electric Co. had a very strong sports and social club with sports grounds next to the works and at Riverway, near Lichfield Road. The Bowls Club continues at Stychfields as the Alstom Bowls Club.
