Description:Volunteer workers organised by the Red Cross in the grounds of a convalescent home for injured soldiers on Stone Road, Eccleshall.

Convalescent soldiers came to Eccleshall from St. Joseph's Hall Red Cross Hospital in Stone due to the high demand for beds.

The Red Cross is an international organisation, founded according to the Geneva Convention of 1864, for the treatment of those wounded in war and the victims of large-scale natural disasters.
