Description:The Bird and Hand Inn had its own malthouse and brewery. It was one of the last public houses in the county to brew its own beer. The Shelley family owned the Inn from 1819 until 1954. At the time of this photograph the landlord was Thomas H. Shelley.

Brewing started in 1750 and continued until 20th December 1927. The inn closed in 2005, and demolition of the building started around 2012.
